Vacation

I really want to go on vacation. I don't go on vacation very often-I don't really take much time off and most of the time go away I go to my parents' house, which doesn't really count. Sleeping on a lumpy bed, being bored in a small town, having my mom yell at me and wake me up way too early every morning definitely doesn't count. I think the last actual vacation time I had was when I went to Denmark, and really...that was what? Three days after the work meetings?

Anyway, I really can't go anywhere this summer. Not only do I have an undergrad to babysit, but I also have my boss breathing down my neck about my progress (I want to scream at him that I really am working as hard as I can now, unlike a few months ago) and I NEED to finish this particular set of studies/paper. There is no way that I can afford any time off right now, although I must admit that I think motivation slow downs like what happened a few months ago are probably the result of a general lack of real vacation. I mean, I barely get a free weekend (this Saturday is beautiful, yet I will be in lab all day.) Even if I had the time, I DEFINITELY don't have the cash. *Sigh* I keep thinking of how much I would like to go to a beach and relax, or how much I would like to go to Charlotte to visit my best friend (or to have gone to Charlotte last weekend to visit many of my best friends) or how much I LOVED traveling in Copenhagen by myself last year just sightseeing and generally enjoying myself. I saw a girl with a terrible sunburn on the T yesterday (the exact kind of sunburn I get after a day in the sun) and I was SO jealous because it meant that she must have gone somewhere interesting and had probably not spent her last few days in the lab.

So....any suggestions? Since everyone seems to be having virtual parties in their blogs, I think I should have a virtual vacation. I think my first stop will be Tahiti. Anyone with me?

Let's go to NYC one of these weekends this summer. We'll take the Fung Wah (cheap) and stay at a hostel - a nice one (also cheap). A plan, yes?

Can I pretend I'm going with you to Tahiti? We can pretend we got sunburn too!

I got a sunburn while staining my back deck so don't be too quick to be envious of that girl's sunburn LOL.

I feel for you. I can't remember the last time I went on an actual vacation. I desperately want to just get away with DH to a beach. Just for a couple of days would be great. *sigh*

*closes eyes and imagines herself on the beach in Tahiti with Iggy*

You can live vicariously through me once I get back from my trip to San Fran, if you'd like. :)

I have a week long vacation at the end of the month. You can pretend to be with me! I'm going to Ottawa, London, Chicoutimi and Washington, DC.

I'm not certain why this seemed like a good idea, but I am looking forward to it.

Hell yeah, NYC!!! I am down for that . . . take the bus down, go clubbing and sightseeing, maybe catch a baseball game. Let's do it.

Just make the plans for a cheap vacation (as evan suggested). It's the only way you'll actually do it & somehow you'll find the money. You'll be happy in the end & less stressed. Even 3 days will be refreshing.

Years ago I stayed at a hostel in NY with a friend it was fairly cheap & had an awesome location.

Chris and I hadn't taken a real vacation together in 5 years. Thus, we HAD to do a vacation this year even though we could use that money elsewhere and he had to forego his annual Canadian fishing trip. Just do it!

I like to take virtual tours of apartment buildings so I can pretend I am living somewhere new and exciting and just plain bigger.

Iggy. Let's stay somewhat local and get some lobstahs and soft serve ice cream in Maine.

Where are we with the ACB club?

I would like to go to Tahiti.

I feel like I need a vacation myself. I never get to do anything by myself. I would love to just go to the beach for a week with no one else around. The most I get now is a day or two off, and I always end up cleaning.

Wow! I knew Blogger had been a little weird lately, but for some reason I didn't realize that it would affect the emails that I get with comments! Look at all of these surprise comments this morning!

Hmmm...NYC. That sounds like it might work. We should talk about that.

After I wrote this post, I came up with an interesting potential vacation plan for next summer (so that I can save up for it.) It could be cool. I'll let you know if it ever becomes something other than an idea.

Nutz, Nookie and Boo (and everyone else too)...you are definitely invited to my pretend vacation!! Start packing!

Jen and Bob...I definitely plan on living vicariously through you. Be sure to give me lots of details so I don't have to make them up. :)

HD-I know what you mean. I started looking at travel websites for places I'd like to go and it made me feel a little better to pretend that I was actually going.

Monsty-Excellent idea. Mmmm Lobstahs and soft-serve ice cream. Did you know I've never been to Maine?
As for ABC coffee club, I'm pretty flexible. Mondays and Tuesdays are generally pretty bad for me, but I can definitely do other days. I'll email you later this afternoon because I am really supposed to be ordering antibodies right now.

Oh! And about the sunburn:

I sunburn very severely very easily. I practically get a sunburn just thinking about the sun and I get a sunburn whenever I do something interesting outside, so I sort of see it as a mark of doing something fun (something fun and cancer-causing, I guess).

This weekend is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL and I had to postpone Saturday's day-long experiment so now I am free to enjoy the sun. I may end up sunburned this weekend after all.

I vacationed in Tahiti several years ago. *ducks*

I could post some pictures of Tahiti for your virtual vacation.
